My name is Dr. Hilel Swerdlin and I am an Otolaryngologist. For the last 18 years, I was using Designs for Vision loupes and a Xenon Fiber Optic Headband Light. A friend of mine who is a dentist told me to try the SurgiTel Loupes with the accessory high intensity LED clip-on light. Within a week, Gregg, the SurgiTel sales rep came to my office and set me up with a SurgiTel system.

My experience with SurgiTel has been extraordinary. The system is very comfortable and lightweight. The quality of the loupe magnification and field of vision is great. The coaxial alignment of the loupes and the LED light provides a bright and impressive image. The LED battery life is about 8 – 10 hours and the light-weight battery pack charges in about an hour.

I have used the SurgiTel system for one year and have performed a wide variety of surgeries including septoplasty, inferior turbinate reduction, tonsillectomy, partial glossectomy, adenoidectomy, thyroidectomy, parotidectomy with facial nerve dissection, salivary gland, and salivary duct surgery, excision of thyroglossal duct cyst, excision of the branchial cleft cyst, and neck dissection. I do not miss my old loupes or the old Xenon fiber-optic tethered light system

I have also been using the SurgiTel system in the office with great results. I have been able to perform office-based surgeries such as septoplasty, nasal valve expansion, the base of tongue radiofrequency ablation, biopsy, and excision of lesions, and have even been able to replace my microscope for some office-based ear procedures including cerumen removal, ear debridements, and pneumo otoscopy.

To my colleagues who are still working with the ‘default’ loupes, I would recommend reaching out and trying something newer. You just might be surprised what they can do for your daily work. I personally use SurgiTel and would recommend them based on my experience. I found the staff very friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and willing to go the extra mile to provide you with the best loupe and light system to fit your needs.
